World Book Day 2022
World Book Day Learning and Fun
World Book Day is celebrating 25 years! World Book Day is a registered charity which aims to change lives through a love of books and shared reading. Their mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.
At Violet Way, we will be celebrating World Book Day 2022 in a number of ways. The learning focus in English across the school will be rhymes and poetry. The daily story time will be focused on Nursery Rhymes and children will read and recite lots of different rhymes in class. On Friday 4th March, the children will be able to vote for their favourite rhyme as a class. They will rehearse their chosen rhyme and, in the Merit Assembly on Friday 11th March, they will perform their rhyme as a class to the whole school!
On World Book Day (Thursday 3rd March), children and staff can come into school dressed in pyjamas. They will start the day with milk and toast and have a bedtime story! Children should bring in their own book from home, which they will be able to talk about in class circle time.
The children spoke and we listened!
When Mrs Kee carried out a 'Pupil Voice' with a focus on reading and asked what we could do at Violet Way to make reading even better, the children said they would like her to read to them, they would like other teachers to read to them and they would like to raise money to buy more books. We listened and, during World Book day, the teachers will be swapping classes to read a story, Mrs Kee will be reading a story to every class over the next two weeks and we will be having the grand opening of our new library, including a great competition to raise money for books - thank you for the great ideas children!
Bedtime Stories at Violet Way
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, members of staff from school will be reading a bedtime story. Each night, we will post a video of a different member of staff reading a story for you to watch at home. The stories will be rhyming stories so, listen carefully to see if you can spot any rhyming words!
