World Book Day 2024
World Book Day Learning and Fun
World Book Day is a registered charity which aims to change lives through a love of books and shared reading. Their mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.
At Violet Way, we will be celebrating World Book Day 2024 in a number of ways. The learning focus in English across the school will be poems, songs and rhymes. All teachers will read a story daily, as usual and the children will also have stories read to them by different teachers when we have a story time swap!
Each class will be learning a poem off by heart and then performing it to the whole school at the end of the week. Their learning in English will be linked to our poetry focus.
On Thursday 7th March (World Book Day) children and staff are invited to come to school dressed in pyjamas. We will start the day with milk and biscuits and story time.
The children spoke and we listened!
After its success last year, we will be holding another competition to raise money for new books for our library. We listened and, for the three weeks before half term, children will be able to enter into a 'Guess the character' competition to raise money for new library books.
